Food Operations Director

GREEN LINE APOTHECARY is hiring a Food Operations Director to take our restaurant and soda fountain operations to the next level! We are seeking a knowledgeable, hard-working, and innovative Front-of-House professional to put their imprint on all things food at Green Line. Manage staff, drive excellence, and generate growth across our soda fountains, on-site and off-site events, ice cream production, menu development, and new commissary kitchen.  Be willing to get your hands dirty while making strategic management contributions.

Food Operations Director Responsibilities:

Soda Fountain Operations

Green Line's customers expect an old-fashioned level of personal service with all the amenities of a modern pharmacy - and that especially includes our vintage soda fountain. Affectionately known as a "Soda Jerk," named after the jerking motion of the soda fountain draft arm, the Food Operations Director would oversee our our Fountain Manager and Soda Jerk staff at both our Wakefield and Providence locations, as well as all other operations of the soda fountain business:

  • Oversee Fountain Manager soda fountain staff, including scheduling, recruiting, hiring and training team members
  • Provide leadership to day-to-day operations with focus on problem solving and process improvement
  • Develop and implement daily operational procedures including equipment maintenance, sanitation procedures, and food preparation
  • Plan and set goals for soda fountain revenue and performance
  • Manage and order food-service inventory
  • Creatively develop, review, and implement expanded menu options based on seasonality, performance, and business objectives
  • Collaborate with pharmacy, merchandising and other colleagues to drive overall performance and customer satisfaction
  • Expertly operate computer-based Point-of-Sale system, including generating sales and inventory reports
  • Report directly to owners/executive management
  • Provide reporting to owners including revenue performance, inventory, staff assessments

The Food Operations Director would also be expected to work alongside soda fountain staff in both locations, fulfilling the following daily responsibilities:

  • Expertly make and serve menu items at our restored 1940's soda fountain; including soda, ice cream, shakes, floats and more
  • Maintain a clean and organized soda fountain in a fast-paced environment
  • Stocking shelves and assist in managing front-of-the-store inventory
  • Managing cash register
  • Charismatically greeting and interacting with customers to re-create the classic drugstore environment
  • Assisting customers find retail items throughout the store
  • Cleaning, mopping, trash removal, restocking, etc.

Clara’s Cart off site events

  • Conduct off-site catering operations for Clara’s Cart mobile soda fountain business
  • Maintain and book calendar of events
  • Transport freezer trailer to events and set up service of ice cream and frozen treats
  • Manage staffing of events
  • Ensure excellent customer experience

Food Strategy Development

  • Coordinate ice cream and food production schedule at new company-owned commissary kitchen
  • Develop strategy for menu additions consistent with vision and theme of historic soda fountains
  • Provide creative leadership of food development
  • Track food costs and menu item profitability

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of restaurant management, operations, front-of-house or similar experience required
  • Track record of innovation, superb performance, and exceeding of customer expectations
  • Experience managing staff of 10+ people preferred
  • Ability to develop talent and build teams
  • Excellent customer service instincts, positive attitude, and communication skills
  • Fundamental business math, accounting and analytical skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Ability to work with spreadsheets and google suite of cloud-based tools
  • Bachelors or Associates degree preferred
  • Food Safety Certification preferred
  • TIPS certification preferred
  • Ability to travel throughout Rhode Island

Schedule:

40 hours per week, full-time schedule, with on-call availability during business hours (M-Su 8:30am-8pm)
